Why you may need an extraction…

When a tooth is not able to be restored, the tooth must be removed.

  • A local anesthetic will be administered to make you comfortable during the procedure. Many times we can wiggle the tooth back and forth and it will come out in one piece.
  • Sometimes, if a tooth is severely broken down, or if the tooth has roots with large curves, the tooth must be taken out in a few different pieces. A dental handpiece is used to section the tooth into smaller pieces, then the pieces are removed one at a time until the entire tooth is gone.
  • If you are planning to have an implant placed, once the tooth is removed, we will place a bone graft into the socket. We will then place sutures over the top of the graft material to keep it in place while the jaw heals.

We can't wait to see you!
